No man can win her heart—until now…

In the Gladium Province, the boundaries between humans and Morgons, the dragon-hybrid race, continue to blur as a new generation surrenders to long-forbidden temptation…

Sorcha Linden does whatever she wants whenever she wants, and no one can stop her. Least of all a man. After all, they’re good for only one thing—warming her bed. But then she meets Lorian Nightwing, brother of Lucius. Seductive and iron-willed, he is determined to melt her emotional defenses—and warm her rebellious heart.

The beast within Lorian longs to cage Sorcha and mark her as his own. Forever. Yet the man within also longs to protect her. When a stalker starts leaving Sorcha suggestive gifts with cryptic messages bearing an ancient blood cult symbol, Lorian’s dragon side takes over. With her life at stake, Sorcha can no longer deny the love they share. But when evil tracks her into the night, will she be too late to claim it?

While I was reading this book, I was thinking, how do I write this review? I love the world that Juliette has created and I love her Morgon men, but this heroine, Sorcha ... I really did not like her in the beginning.

I found Sorcha to be brash, loud and I didn't like her attitude. I didn't like that she didn't think before she spoke, that she had a smart mouth and that she used sex as a weapon to keep people at bay. It cheapened her as a woman and made her come across as slutty. As the book progressed, I grew to see that underneath all the bravado was a scared little girl who was afraid to love and trust, and she was using all that swaggering to cover up a wounded heart. It helped me to understand her and it helped me to dislike her less but it still didn't excuse or wash away her behavior in the previous book and the beginning of this one for me.

Now Lorian ... I loved. I was expecting him to be much darker and broodier from his introduction in Soulfire and his past, but he was just a strong, dominating alpha male who knew what he wanted and went after it. He understood Sorcha and her past better than she probably did herself and forgave her for it. I enjoyed seeing her pursuit of her and how he progressively broke down those walls so that at a point when Sorcha thought she was in danger, he was the first one she called. A definite change in her attitude from thinking of him as just another one night stand to someone she could count on and trust.

The mystery of who was stalking Sorcha was a good one too. Finding out who was actually the stalker really surprised me and it was a great twist to the story.
I'm really enjoying these Morgon men that Juliette has created and I'm glad that I didn't have to wait too long between Soulfire and this one. I'm looking forward to Nightbloom when it comes out in September ... September seems so far away ...

One last thought, Juliette Cross packs a punch in 100+ pages.

To close, here are a couple of my favorite quotes from the book:

Juliette Cross“When he was rough, my body soared. When he was gentle, he slayed me.”
 Juliette Cross, Windburn

“I let myself feel everything. Just this once, I wanted it all. I let him push our passion to the cliff, let my body synchronize to his in perfect harmony. Just this once, I let more than my body fall over the edge. With him.”
 Juliette Cross, Windburn

“... But I won't be your prey. There's only one hunter here." His grin sent a shiver down my spine. "I want something more from you, Sorcha Linden. More than your body.”

 Juliette Cross, Windburn

About the Author:

Juliette CrossJuliette calls lush, moss-laden Louisiana home where the landscape curls into her imagination, creating mystical settings for her stories. She has a B.A. in creative writing from Louisiana State University, a M.Ed. in gifted education, and was privileged to study under the award-winning author Ernest J. Gaines in grad school. Her love of mythology, legends, and art serve as constant inspiration for her works. From the moment she read JANE EYRE as a teenager, she fell in love with the Gothic romance--brooding characters, mysterious settings, persevering heroines, and dark, sexy heroes. Even then, she not only longed to read more novels set in Gothic worlds, she wanted to create her own.
